Concealed carrier delivers swift justice when Chicago thugs allegedly approach him — and one pulls gun, demands his property

A late-night encounter in Chicago’s Cragin neighborhood escalated into gunfire early Tuesday morning, highlighting once again the realities of violent crime and lawful self-defense in major U.S. cities.

According to Chicago police, the incident occurred around 2:40 a.m. near the intersection of Montana Street and Laramie Avenue. A 39-year-old man was exiting his vehicle when he was allegedly approached by two men.

Police report that during the encounter, one of the suspects produced a firearm and demanded the victim’s property. The victim, who authorities confirmed is a licensed concealed-carry holder, responded by drawing his own firearm and firing multiple shots.

One of the suspects was struck in the legs, while the second suspect was taken into custody without reported injuries. Officers detained both individuals at the scene.

The wounded suspect, a 23-year-old man, was treated by paramedics from the Chicago Fire Department and transported to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was listed in good condition.

The Legal Aftermath

Area Five detectives are continuing to investigate the incident. As of the original report, no charges have been publicly announced, and investigators will review evidence, witness statements, and surveillance footage to determine whether the shooting meets Illinois’ legal standards for self-defense.

Illinois law allows the use of deadly force when an individual reasonably believes it is necessary to prevent imminent death, great bodily harm, or the commission of a forcible felony, such as armed robbery. In this case, police have acknowledged that the victim was legally carrying a firearm and was allegedly confronted with a gun.

Chicago Concealed Carrier Under Investigation

Readers should understand that while the concealed carrier appears to have acted in lawful self-defense, the incident remains under investigation and could still result in criminal charges.

Even if prosecutors ultimately decline filing charges, the attacker may pursue a civil lawsuit seeking damages. This illustrates a harsh reality faced by concealed carriers: in jurisdictions hostile to civilian gun ownership, even justified acts of self-defense can trigger prolonged legal, financial, and emotional consequences.
