Demonstrating the Body Lock

Cecil and a training partner demonstrate how to establish a body lock, with moves shown several times and explained in detail. The key points to remember are to drive in and open up, while keeping your elbows tight to your body. Wrapping your hands around the attacker’s waist in a palm-to-palm grip, bring your elbows back to your body to pull them in tight. Your spine and head should be vertical while using your hips to control their posture.

After the Body Lock

Once you have your attacker in a body lock, they will have limited options, while you have control. Their posture will be broken and they will not be fully on both feet. If the attacker has a free arm, they can throw a punch, but it will lack strength. Alternatively, you can quickly reach out with one of your arms, control their free arm, and prevent the punch. You have options to dump the attacker on the ground or transition to another position. The body lock is an effective control position.
