Indoors and in Public, by Day and by Night – More Self Defense Gun Stories

You didn’t see this news covered by the mainstream media, but again this week, responsible gun owners defended themselves and the people they love. Self-defense instructor Robyn Sandoval joins the Self Defense Gun Stories Podcast to look at four new examples. Were these gun owners lucky, or were they well trained?

These victims saved lives because they had a gun and good habits.

First story – Are you armed at home?

It is 11:30 at night when you hear a crashing sound and your house rattles. You get up to see what happened. You see someone in your house and he’s moving toward you. You’re armed. You shout and you shoot your handgun at your intruder. Now he runs away. You back up and call 911.

The 911 operator says they have already received calls about shots in the area. Your intruder was arrested in front of your home and taken to the hospital for treatment of multiple gunshot wounds. He was charged with burglarizing two cars in the neighborhood before he entered your home by kicking in the door.

Second Story – Do you have a firearm nearby when you sleep?

It is 1:30 in the morning when something wakes you up. You listen again and hear the sound of breaking glass. You grab your firearm and move to your bedroom door. A stranger walks across the kitchen toward you. You shoot your intruder. Your intruder backs away toward the back door. You call 911 and ask for the police.

EMTs take your intruder to the hospital for treatment of an abdominal wound. Police find the broken back window where the intruder broke into your home.

Third story – Are you armed in front of your home?

You are mowing your lawn after work. You stop to talk to one of your neighbors when a stranger runs by on the street. The next thing you know, someone is shooting at you and your friends. You’re hit in the ankle and leg. You have your Illinois concealed carry permit and you’re armed. You return fire and your attacker runs away. You and your neighbors call 911. You’re a firefighter, so you know the first responders.

Your attacker is uninjured, but arrested by the police a few blocks away. They find his gun and coat in a trashcan nearby.

Fourth story – Are you armed as you work outside?

You’re feeding the animals before dark at your rural property. Two cars pull up and you’re not expecting strangers. You walk up and ask the men if they are lost? You take a picture of their car. You see one of the men with a shotgun in his lap, and then the armed man gets out of his car with his gun in his hands.

You’re armed. You run away from your house. You draw your concealed firearm as you move through the trees. Your attackers shoot at you, and you shoot back. Both cars drive away. You check on your family while your wife calls the police.

When the police arrive, you show them your security video and your cell phone picture of your attackers.

Self Defense Gun Stories Podcast – Home Defense Edition

by Rob Morse

You didn’t see this news covered by the mainstream media, but again this week, responsible gun owners defended themselves and the people they love. Self-defense instructor Andee Reardon O’Brion joins the Self Defense Gun Stories Podcast to look at four new examples. Were these gun owners lucky, or were they well trained? (23-minute audio)

These victims saved lives because they had a gun … and good habits.

First Story- Are you armed at home in the middle of the day?

You’re lying down in bed. You hear your family come home. A few moments later, you hear your daughter scream. You’re heading towards her room in a flash. You see a stranger standing over her, and you tackle him. Your daughter runs out of the room. You get off the stranger and draw your gun. You order the intruder to the ground while your wife calls the police.

Police were already in the area after receiving reports of several break-ins. Your attacker is in jail charged with four counts of felony breaking and entering, larceny, and possession of the stolen property.

Second Story- Are you armed at home?

You hear the shouting outside. It is ten at night and you open the door to see what is going on. Your roommates are arguing with someone they know. You see the strange man hand a gun to the strange woman. Now your roommates run inside. The woman points her gun at you, and then she shoots at the house. You draw your gun, shoot at your attackers and duck for cover inside the house. The attackers run away. You call the police.

Police arrested your attackers. They were charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, attempted first-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, aggravated criminal damage to property, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Third Story- Are you armed at home late at night?

You are at home with your family. It is ten at night when you hear someone banging on your front door. The strangers are shouting “Sheriff’s office. Open up!” You’re gathering your family and reaching for your phone when the intruders break down your door. These are not deputies, and they have their guns out. Their guns are pointed at you and your family.

You move, draw your firearm, and shoot the attacker closest to you. The other attackers run away. You call EMTs and the police.

The four other people in your home, including a 13-year-old child, are uninjured. One of your attackers died at the scene.

Forth Story- Do you have a firearm available late at night?

It is three in the morning when you’re startled awake by someone banging on your front door. You wonder if you were imagining it, when you hear glass breaking. You shout for your roommate to wake up, and you grab your gun. You step out of your bedroom and see a stranger standing in your house. You shout for him to put his arms up. The robber does as he’s told and your roommate calls the police.

Your 20-year-old robber is held in jail on charges of felony trespass, criminal damage to property and illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor.

Stories of Armed Self Defense

courtesy of American Rifleman

Sitting at home, a couple was in the living room when they heard loud banging on their kitchen door. Going to investigate, the woman’s husband went to the other room and saw a young man hitting the door while demanding to see a girlfriend.

The homeowner ordered the man to leave. Refusing, the man reached his arm through the pet door to grab the doorknob and unlock it. However, the homeowner knocked away the man’s arm. Then the man began throwing rocks at the door before breaking a window.

The homeowner warned the man repeatedly that he had a gun and would shoot in defense. Undeterred, the man eventually unlocked the back door, and yelled as he entered. The armed citizen fired his pistol once, striking the man in the leg in an apparent effort to stop him.

As the man fell to the floor, the homeowner subdued him until police arrived. Criminal charges were pending against the intruder, who was treated at a hospital for his leg wound. (arizonadailyindependent.com, Oro Valley, Ariz., 3/31/19)

Armed Citizen Extra
In yet another story from the streets of Chicago, a concealed-carry holder managed to fend off an assailant in the city’s southwest side one Monday. While walking into the alleyway of an apartment complex, a man with a drawn handgun approached the would-be victim.

Determined to not become a victim, however, the man drew his pistol and shot the mugger in the head. He was taken to a nearby hospital, in critical condition. (Chicago Sun Times, Chicago, Ill., 5/27/19)

When two would-be robbers entered Charles Calinis’ New Haven, Conn., grocery store, one immediately drew a pistol and placed it at the owner’s head. Calinis managed to reach his own .22 pistol and wound one intruder. The other fled. (Bridgeport Post, Bridgeport, Conn.)

On the Street, at Home, and at Work – More Self Defense Gun Stories

by Rob Morse
courtesy of Ammoland

Self-defense instructor Tony Simon joins the Self Defense Gun Stories Podcast to look at four new examples. Were these gun owners lucky, or did they have a plan and training? What can we learn from their experience?

These victims survived lethal attacks because they had a gun … and a plan.

First story – Are you armed as you walk down the street?
You are walking to your girlfriend’s house with your 5 year old son when a man across the alley starts yelling at you for no reason. It is four in the afternoon. The man across the alley has a gun in his hand. You step back, pulling your 5 year old behind you. That’s when the criminal starts shooting at both of you.

You have your Illinois concealed carry license. You’re armed and you’re well trained. You present your gun from its holster and shoot the criminal until he stops shooting at you and your son. You rush your son to your vehicle and hand him to a friend. You check to make sure your son is uninjured. Then you call police while keeping your eyes on the bad guy.

EMTs take your attacker to the hospital. The police ask to see your firearm, your permit, and your FOID card. Your attacker was a convicted felon and gang member. It was illegal for your attacker to have a gun. It appears he was sending threatening video messages to other gangs when he attacked you.

Second Story – Are you armed at home?
It is just after noon when you hear someone knocking on your front door. They are banging away and you go to see who it is. You also see someone trying to get into your house through the back door. That seems suspicious. You walk back to your bedroom and get your gun. You call police. You’re standing in the hallway of your home when the intruder breaks through your front door. A second later the intruder crashes into you. You shoot him. You back up, and the intruder runs away. Now you tell the police that shots were fired.

The police find your attacker in the front yard. He was wearing rubber gloves and had prior arrests for breaking and entering, and for burglary. The police arrested his accomplice who was at your back door. He had prior arrests for auto theft, and was charged with felony murder and burglary.

Third story – Are you armed at work?
It is one in the morning and you’re behind the counter at a convenience store. A customer walks in wearing a hoodie and a mask over his face. Then he pulls an 11 inch hatchet from his pants and tells you to give him the money. You back up, draw your firearm. The attacker puts down his hatchet and raises his hands. You call police. The intruder gets up and runs away.

Fourth story – Are you armed at home?
You are a woman home alone. It is almost ten in the morning when you hear someone banging on your front door. You don’t recognize him, so you don’t open the door. A minute later you hear someone trying to get in through your back door. You retreat to a back room in the house, get your gun, and hide in a closet. You call police. You’re talking to the police when the intruder opens the closet door. You shoot him several times.

The police arrive minutes later.
