Stand your ground is a set of self-defense laws that allow individuals to use force, including deadly force, to defend themselves or others without a legal requirement to retreat from a threatening situation. In “stand your ground” states, individuals have no duty to try to escape or retreat before using force to protect themselves, even if they could do so safely. As of this writing, 27 states have passed some form of Stand your Ground law.
